Antimicrobial resistance dynamics and the one-health strategy: a review

Antimicrobial resistance is a global threat that kills at least 75,000 people every year worldwide and causes extended hospital stays. In the coming 10 years, antimicrobial projected to have huge health economic burden on countries, scarcity of available antibiotics further worsens situation. results mainly from indiscriminate antibiotic usage in humans, animals agriculture, rapid emergence dissemination resistant pathogens. This issue challenging for stewardship, strict regulations usage, large-scale surveillance responsible public behavior. demands international cooperation integrated efforts under ‘one-health’ strategy. Here, we review one-health We discuss historical using antibiotics. highlight effectiveness hygiene livestock rearing, careful animals, humans environment domains. present strategies mitigation resistance, exemplified by successful ban triclosan which induced significant decline emphasize benefits partnership participation stakeholders public, healthcare professionals government mitigate resistance.
